The Club does hold frequent social events and tournaments where wives and significant others are invited to attend. The Club membership is a small, intimate group of people. Currently there are around 100 members. While most members reside in Aiken, we have a number of out-of-town members. We are very selective in adding new members and seek quality individuals who are compatible with our group. Our vetting process for new members is lengthy and thorough.

The Aiken Tennis Club has a rich heritage that the Board of Directors is committed to preserving. The club was established in 1898 by the prominent financier William C. Whitney.  The Court Tennis building was constructed around 1902 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Club Room, which was designed by the famed architects Hoppin & Koen, was moved to its current location in 1928. The facility is currently part of the Whitney Trust. Being one of only eleven courts existing in the United States today, this unique and exclusive Club represents a unique treasure among Aiken’s many sporting traditions and historic sites.

We have members who use the club primarily for its tennis facilities, and others who use it as a place to socialize, play pool, play backgammon, or to just get away and enjoy a few quiet moments with some of their fellow members. The Club also has a limited guest policy, but facility priority goes to the members.
